The Solution
All homes are different and there is no one size fits all solution. It is best to have a professional come and assess the property to find out what option is best for you. One of the most common ways to keep a crawl space dry is to remove the water before it can get in. A French/tile drainage system is the preferred method. We first dig a trench around the perimeter of the foundation. After we place a layer of gravel in the trench, a corrugated pipe is then installed and buried with more gravel. These pipes collect water and gradually grade down to a sump pit. It is then pumped out through the foundation, away from the house with a 1 ½“ pipe. It is recommended to use this system along with a vapor barrier and dehumidifier in a crawl space to keep the area at a low humidity.
