Mold in Living Areas
|
Mold can hide in many places around a house, usually where water is found. You might find it in your bathroom, a closet, in cabinets, carpet, couches, the kitchen area and your HVAC system. Mold in the house poses a health risk as it becomes airborne and travels throughout the home. Some of the more dangerous molds releases harmful mycotoxins that contaminate the air. Because of this, mold should be removed as soon as possible.

COMMON CAUSES OF MOLD IN LIVING AREAS INCLUDE:
- A leaking or burst pipe
- Poor ventilation in bathrooms, or kitchen
- Flooding
- Wet carpet usually caused by spills, wet clothes, snow, basement floors
- Damp basements
- Condensation on cold surfaces
- Leaking windows, siding, doors etc.

Once the decision is made to remediate the mold, we will start by setting up a negative air environment. We first use a 6mil plastic to seal the area off from the rest of the house. Next, an air scrubber is introduced so that while working, all mold that is released in the air will be trapped in its HEPA filters. An on-contact mold killer is then sprayed on all mold and scrubbed off. All damaged drywall, wood or other materials beyond saving will be discarded in designated bags. After all mold is removed, a mold and mildew proof paint, containing mildewcide, is then applied to all cleaned surfaces. This paint kills any residual mold, and prevents any new growth.
